After lunch we travelled the short distance to Lincoln and our  visit to the vast Cathedral which originates from the 11th century.

Hugh of Avalon built the present Early English cathedral following the earthquake of 1185.  Our two excellent guides
explained just some of the beautiful features of this fine medieval building including the Tournai marble font and also the 13th  and 14th century Dean’s Eye and Bishop’s Eye stained-glass windows in the crossing.

The exquisite organ music being played during our visit added to our enjoyment.

There was time for tea before our journey to Harrogate and everyone agreed that the day had been most memorable.
